  • Are you getting worn down by morning mayhem, bedtime battles, sibling scuffles, dawdling and defiance?

  • Do you try to avoid using threats, bribes and punishments, but find yourself using them anyway, just to survive the day?

  • Would you like to learn practical and effective methods that will make life with little kids easier and more satisfying?

“How To Talk” is an experiential, effective and highly engaging program for parents and caregivers of children ages two to ten, based on the best selling book by Joanna Faber and Julie King.  Each week you will leave the session with practical strategies that you can implement immediately to improve communication and discipline and enhance your relationships at home.

This online workshop meets using Zoom.us. Space is limited to give all participants the opportunity to practice and ask questions. Sessions are not recorded for privacy reasons.

“This workshop was WONDERFUL! It was so helpful to talk to Julie and hear her wise and experienced take on so many of the struggles that we go through as parents to little children every day. She has such a graceful way to help us see the impact of our words on our children and how we can shift our thinking and way we speak to really help them be problem solvers and want to cooperate. I highly recommend it!”

REFRESHER SUPPORT GROUPS for workshop graduates and readers

For those with teens:
Meets online first Friday of the month (No meeting in August 2021)
9:30 to 11:30 AM Pacific
Email julie@julieking.org to join.

  • Could you use some strategies for the new situations and challenges that have come up since you last took a workshop or read the book?
  • Are you finding it hard to remember the skills you learned when you’re in the heat of the moment?

Many workshop graduates say they wish there were a way to follow up after the workshop has ended. Now there is! The Refresher and Support workshops are open to graduates of any one or more workshops by Julie King or readers of any How To Talk book. We will address your issues and challenges from home (or the park, or school, or…). The group serves as a place to refresh yourself and further explore the skills and philosophy we have studied, as well as a place to get inspiration and concrete ideas for specific situations.

Feedback from a parent of a tween:

“When I first joined this group the relationship with my tween had become pretty strained. I have now attended 3 of Julie’s tween series [4 sessions per series] and they have really helped me get along better with both of my kids. The other parents are very supportive and inspiring and Julie gives each of us practical tools, customized to our unique situations. This support has boosted my confidence with tackling difficult conversations and helped me be more patient and empathetic with my tween. Many of the ideas presented are universal enough to also be helpful with adult relationships.”

“I just attended a workshop with Julie King. It is LIFE-CHANGING. Truly, these methods are novel and they feel a little weird sometimes but I cannot BELIEVE how well they work. It is almost like I came home to different kids!…

“Anyway, if any of you parents out there need some new approaches, I highly recommend Julie and her book, and if you can swing it, one of her trainings. It’s different being in a group discussion than just reading a book when you are about to go to sleep.”
